Safari Overview

The Materuni Waterfalls and Coffee Tour is one of the most popular day trips from Moshi and Arusha, combining a scenic hike through the lush foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro with a hands-on cultural experience at a traditional Chagga coffee farm. It is an enriching half-day adventure that offers a completely different perspective on Tanzania beyond the safari parks. The morning begins with a drive to the village of Materuni on the southern slopes of Kilimanjaro, where you are greeted by local guides who lead you on a moderate one-hour hike through banana plantations and tropical vegetation to a spectacular 70-meter waterfall cascading into a natural pool. The mist from the falls and the surrounding greenery create a refreshing oasis, and you can swim in the pool at the base of the falls. Returning to the village, you join a Chagga family for a traditional coffee experience. You learn every step of the process, from picking ripe cherries off the bush to roasting over an open fire, hand-grinding with a wooden mortar, and finally brewing a cup of some of the freshest, most aromatic coffee you will ever taste. A traditional Chagga lunch completes the experience. This tour directly supports the local community and offers genuine cultural exchange.
